What's more, it is about a third smaller, so if you're taking a fill flash outdoors it'll fit in a coat or cargo short pocket without falling out.Light quantity is very good, and wireless response is excellent - from almost any angle, it'll respond to my D80's flash signals where the 900 sometimes won't. It won't give you all the reach or the coverage of the 900, but it does about 75-80% of what the 900 can do. I would highly recommend this flash for any prosumer application. I won't retread older reviews with this. This flash does a damn good job, considering it's half the price of the 900. I use this both for work and for fun, and I'm not disappointed with it.The only quibble I have is the lack of support for gels, but I know a lot of folks do DIY gels, so this is a minor issue.
Plan for it and use it. I plan on doing more painting with light and Macro photography so getting the flash off the camera is one of my ways to do so. SB-600 FlashNikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasI love this flash. I have a D300 so I have been using the built in flash but I bought this flash for more power and to use the built in Commander functionality of the D300 to fire this flash remotely for more flexibility and power. You will need to buy a book or something to learn all about the power of this system.
Now thinking why I paid $218.95 for this. Now let me check with Nikon for the warranty. I don't know what happened it never came out. I was using this since last October. Performance wise it is very good but one day I was trying to clean up my camera and trying to de-attach the mounted flash. I applied a little bit of force to de-attach the same from the camera but its shoe broke.I'm frustrated with this kind of design.
You can't go wrong with Nikon Speedlights or Amazon service. Wonderful Speedlights and service from Amazon. I am a Nikonian amateur since film. I use an SB-800 Speedflash and bought the 600 for a gift. I plan on buying another SB-600 for my gear setup, as soon as it is updated, for background lighting.
But take off, and. It's amazing. I like using AA batteries. It will also 'pre-flash' and adjust it's output to correctly expose your image. It's bright. If your camera doesn't support being a CLS commander (my old D50 did not), you'll need to get a unit that connects to the hotshoe (like the SB-800) in addition to this speedlight. If you're only going to use this on the hotshoe, there's nothing special about it.
CLS is why this is is expensive, and it's really worth it. On the hotshoe - it's a speedlight. It meters well. If your camera works as a CLS (creative lighting system) commander, you can set this flash up anywhere in the room and it will automatically fire when you take your picture.
